The sky burned without warning.
Normally before a drastic change in the environment, or a disastrous event, there would be a sign. Animals would react to the shift in the air, would seek safety. Birds should have flown in flocks so thick the sky turned black. The wolves and bears should have stopped their war in the snow and fled down off the mountains they called home. Farmland critters should have grown twitchy, shy, scared of the hands of humans.
There should have been a warning – and yet we were not granted anything. It was just another day for every single person, for every single mother, father, sister, brother....
